Happy New Year!

We made it to the New Year!!! I'm excited about all of the hope that a clean-slate generates. We've had no sickness, no missed work, no missed church services, no broken bones, no death in our family....so far, this year is better than last!

December was pretty much a blur. Logan was sick and then I was sick. We went to see the Polar Express (more on that in a separate post), on that same night, my grandpa died, so the next week was filled with sadness, grief and activities surrounding his funeral. 2 days after the funeral - 2 days before Christmas - Logan was tackled at school and broke his collar bone. So Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were spent trying to remind the little one that he needed to slow down, be gentle and take care of his left side. It's been difficult. But he's getting better...both at healing and at remembering that he's hurt. I can't tell you how many times he's said to me in the past couple of days, "Be careful with my arm!"

He had to wear a sling for a couple days. When we went to the orthopedic doctor, he said that if Logan didn't want to wear it, he didn't have to. Of course, Logan doesn't want to wear that sling!

All in all, Christmas with our 3 year old was amazing. We did have to coax him out of bed on Christmas morning because he was so sore, he said, "I just want to lay here all day."

We've taken down the Christmas tree, much to Logan's disapproval. But things are getting back to usual. It's happy to move onto the new year, but sad that Christmas with our 3 year old is over. He is at a wonderful age. We love every minute.

Death

My grandpa died. The other night, I was crying. Logan started crying, too. Not whining or anything like that....REAL crying. He touched my face. He said, "Don't cry, sweetheart. Don't cry sweetheart. It will be okay." I've never called him sweetheart. I don't know where he heard it from. But it was the sweetest thing EVER. Seriously, he's three years old...how did he get to be so sensitive? He is such a blessing...always. But even more so during times of sorrow.

We haven't really talked to him about it much because I am weird about death anyways, so I don't want to pass on any of my "issues" to him. So, we just told him once that mommy's grandpa died. He remembers that though. He'll randomly say, "Why did your Grandpa die?" "Where's Ol' Pa?" (my other grandpa who died before Logan was even born.

I love that little boy.

Random

Logan: Where's my phone? I need to call Jesus.
Me: Why do you need to call Jesus?
Logan: To tell him we need a baby.

Vacation {Fall 2011} Part 1

Well, the sunshine and warm weather seems lightyears away now, but just a couple weeks ago, we headed down south to visit family over the Thanksgiving holiday. Our first stop was Alabama. I love that Logan is old enough to remember people now, so when we arrive, he excitedly greets everyone because he remembers that he loves them. I love that on Saturdays, we get to go to "the sale" and just shop around. We picked up a tee-ball glove for Logan. Almost new. $1. While we were there, Papa got a call from Associated Foods that he had won a four wheeler. They headed to the store to pick it up and came home with this...

....perfect size for Logan. I grabbed my camera and excitedly waited to take pictures. I remember Uncle Darrell saying, "Here's the brakes...." and that's when I got worried. Little boy has no idea what "brakes" are. My heart sank. Off he went. Really fast. The next picture is of everyone running after him. Uncle Darrell grabbed him right before the thing tipped over.

Then they found something safer to play in, and I stopped having a heart attack! I love this picture of Uncle Darrell and Logan checking out the pile of pine straw. I imagine him saying, "Do you think you can make it, Logan." Logan says, "Oh, yeah!"

I love simple country pleasures. Pine straw. Who knew?

I always feel like I take a ton of pictures and then when we leave, I think, "Oh man, I didn't get a picture of _____." But this picture of Logan teaching Nanny how to use the iPad. Priceless.
And Logan was so happy to show off his new dinosaur to Papa. It was a long trip that first day. When we were just a couple hours away, we stopped at Cracker Barrel. We spent way too much money on this dinosaur because we thought that it would keep Logan happy until we arrived (we were all very tired by this point of the evening..). Anyways, they had that stupid thing so secured in the box, we couldn't get it separated without a screw driver, which really upset Logan and made the whole trip that much worse! Once we got to Nanny and Papa's, taking that thing out of the box was one of the first things we did!

Next stop, Florida!

He's Cute

Logan has started saying, "I need to tell you a secret." Then he will whisper in our ear, "I love you." Sweetest thing EVER.

At school, they asked the kids what they would like to give Jesus for his birthday. Logan's response: "A big scary spider."

He's been telling us that he has to "do my homework." I don't know what he's talking about, but it's cute when he says it!

We went down south over Thanksgiving. At some point, I'll blog about that!

Adopted

I never want the fact that Logan was adopted to be some kind of big "reveal" in our relationship, so I incorporate it into conversations. For instance, today I told him, "Santa Claus isn't real and you're adopted." One time when I told him he was adopted, he replied, "no I'm not! You're adopted!" he doesn't even know what it means!

Tonight, while we were brushing our teeth before bedtime, he said, " mommy, I'm a sweet boy. Why am I adopted?" Seriously. He said that. So, I said, "I love you so much, that's why you were adopted!" later, he said to me, "mommy, I love you. You are adopted." I said, " yes, you adopted me, didn't you?" I guess when you think about it, he did adopt me as his mommy even though he doesn't understand what that means and really didn't have a choice in the matter.

There are no rule books for these types of conversations. All I know is I love this little boy with all my heart and it just so happens that he was adopted. No big deal :)

We ARE Alive

I guess I've had a case of Blogger's Block lately...is there such a thing? Not that my posts are that inspired normally, but I just haven't thought of anything to write. Don't get me wrong, Logan is still adorable. And hilarious. Unfortunately, today he is sick. He has a double ear infection. Last year, at this exact time, he had the same thing. He's coughing a lot, too. Poor boy. But seriously, he's a lot less whiney than I would be if I had a horrible cough and two ear infections! Today, I stayed home with him. And he got spoiled. Case-in-point -- the popsicle he is eating....normally, we only eat popsicles outside in the summer. They are too messy for inside, in my opinion...at least until he's a little bit older! These following pictures are from a couple weeks ago when Logan and his daddy were playing trains together. It's one of Logan's favorite things to do.
And I just realized in the picture below...yes, that is a pair of Logan's underwear right beside his dresser. This is real life, people. If I had noticed them while taking the picture, I most certainly would have at least thrown them to the other side of the room!
I love having a little boy. I was catching up on laundry today, since I'm home with him, and I was cleaning out the pockets in all of his sweatshirts before I washed them...I love that he stuffs rocks and leaves and whatever else he can find into his pockets. Seriously...I love it. It reminds me that I have a sweet little boy.
