Even with the cough, he was in good spirits today. He didn't leave the house. He seems to just enjoy being at home and it was better for him to stay inside today!

Super Saturday
We didn't do much today...I love days like that! Logan has really bad cough, which we are a little worried about. Zeb went to Walgreen's to get cough syrup and they told him that you couldn't give cough syrup to children under 4 without talking to your doctor. So, we're going to pray a lot this weekend that his cough goes away.
Even with the cough, he was in good spirits today. He didn't leave the house. He seems to just enjoy being at home and it was better for him to stay inside today!

Busy Week
We've just had a really busy week around here. I was traveling for work on Monday and Tuesday, which I pretty much hate. I don't hate the traveling necessarily, I just hate being away from Logan. He has learned to answer questions with a head-nod now. (He doesn't necessarily understand the questions, he just knows that it's a question -- I guess by the tone in our voices.)
Anyways, so upon my return, I asked him if he missed mommy. Nod. I asked him if he was bad for daddy. Nod. So cute.
I just can't believe that tomorrow he will be 13 months old. I think this past month has been the fastest (seeming) since he was born. Every day, we can see his personality developing more and more. And we love it.

Unfair Advantage
I believe that children have an unfair advantage over their parents -- they are too cute. That is not fair. It is so hard to be firm with a little boy who has so much personality and is so adorable!
I hope you all don't get tired of me writing about how adorable I think my son is. I just do. I mean, I'm sure all parents feel that way...they should. I'm just sayin'...he's pretty cute.

Ssshhhh...don't tell daddy that I let Logan play with his video game controller.
Look how long Logan's hair is getting. And look at how it is curling up in the back. He needs a haircut in the back, but not so much in the front...oh no, that means he's growing a mullet! We need to keep a close eye on that so it doesn't get out of control.

How Old is this Boy?
Sometimes, I think Logan looks more like a two or three year old than a 1 year old. He's growing up so fast. And while it makes his mama's heart ache a little, I am so, so thankful that Logan is growing and learning. It has been the greatest joy of my life to watch our son grow. I look forward to every day because of him.
Can you believe we are rapidly approaching the holiday season? We are so excited about starting family traditions to make this time of year magical and exciting for our little boy. I'm guessing he won't understand much of what is going on even this year, but Zeb and I are already talking about what kinds of things we will do in coming years.

OH NO!
Well, my cover has been blown thanks to the doctor. You see, ever since I was sick last week, mommy would hold me while I sleep and if she would put me down, I would just cry. If she put milk in my sippy cup but I wanted something else, I would scream and scream. If they tried to feed me from that silly baby spoon, I would scream again, and cry, like they were feeding me nails or something crazy like that.
Mommy and daddy were very worried. Before last week, I was a pretty good baby. I would just go with the flow and generally enjoyed life. But after being sick, I figured out that it is fun when mommy and daddy hold me all the time and I really didn't like walking that much anyways. I much prefer pancakes to everything else in the world, so if I screamed, and acted like everything hurt my throat, mommy and daddy would be so worried about me, and they just wanted me to eat, so they would make me pancakes and put a little bit of syrup on them -- yummy.
Everything was going great until we went to the doctor this morning. The doctor looked at my ears (because, just for effect, I've been pulling at my ears this week and putting my hands on the back of my head when I scream). He also looked at my throat, since I acted like simply drinking milk was excruiating. Turns out, everything looks perfect. There isn't really anything wrong with me. I knew that, but now, mom and dad know it, too.
Guess it's going to be a rough day for me. The doctor says that since everything looks okay, I'm probably just going through a "stage," and I'll grow out of it, but only if they don't give into my demands.
Since they figured it out, I decided to nap like a good boy, just like I did before I got sick, and I also ate lunch with no problem. I cried a little when I drank my milk, but when they ignored me, I figured that there's no point in continuing this little game.
It was fun while it lasted, but now, I must learn to deal with my emotions and learn how to communicate rather than cry and scream. I think I liked just being a baby!

Logan's Stats
I almost forgot to report Logan's height and weight from his check-up the other day.
Height -- 31 1/2 inches (95th percentile)
Weight -- 21 lbs. 6 oz. (40th percentile)
And the doctor prescribed some new medicine for his face and it's working great!

Pedialyte Pancakes
Logan was very whiny last night and this morning. We couldn't figure out what was wrong, but we were hoping that it was just because he was so hungry. In the past two and a half days, he had only eaten about the equivalent of 1 jar of baby food and hadn't been drinking much.
He wouldn't take any medicine and wouldn't drink any Pedialyte. So, this morning, when he woke up, we fed him a jar of applesauce and he was still whiny. So, we went back to sleep for a while.
When he woke up a couple hours later, I decided to see if we could get him to eat something more than baby food. So, I made some pancakes and snuck some Pedialyte into the batter. This was the result...

It was sooooooo GOOD to see that smile again!

My Baby is Sick
We have been so, so, sooooooo busy the past few weeks. But all that is on my mind right now is that little Logan is sick.
He was supposed to have his 1 year vaccinations two weeks ago today, but I had to travel out of town for work on that day, so we rescheduled to last Friday. We were already taking the day off work to head out of town 3 hours north to my very best friend's wedding (more on that later). So, Friday seemed like the perfect time to squeeze in Logan's appointment. In the hustle and bustle of everything, the doctor recommended that we get the flu shot and the H1N1 shot. I have NEVER gotten a flu shot and have no plans to. However, as you're sitting there trying to decide what is best for the most precious person in the world to you, so many things keep running through your mind..."what about all the DEATHS from H1N1?" "Am I being irresponsible if I, out of some loosely-based convinction, do NOT get the shot for him?" "WHAT IS BEST FOR HIM?!"
Anyways, we decided to get the shots. Ugh.
So, five shots and a finger prick later, we were out of the doctor's office to hurry and get ready for our trip (2 hours in the doctor's office!). Logan was NOT happy about his shots. He was devestated. He just cried and cried. And then he milked it and whined a lot, which is so not like him, but made us laugh a little just because it was SO dramatic.
Fast forward 24 hours to the morning of the wedding. Logan, Zeb and I went out for breakfast and Logan ate like a champ. He loves pancakes! I had to be at the church about 1:00 and he was starting to run a slight fever. So, my mom (who went along with us to help with Logan) decided to stay home from the wedding and we would just pick them up for the reception. Fortunately, the hotel, the church and the reception hall were all close together.
So, off to the wedding, which just happened to be one of the most amazing weddings EVER. I think it's just because I know that these 2 precious friends are so in love. Their marriage just made sense, you know? I was so honored to be a part of their very special day.
After the wedding and some pictures, Logan was still running a fever, so Zeb ran me back to the hotel so that I could give him some love before the reception. As soon as I took him in my arms, I was like, "He is burning up." It wasn't as easy for my mom to realize this since she had been with him all day. Zeb hurried to Walgreen's to buy a thermometer -- it's NO fun being away from home and having all this go on. Upon his return, we discover that Logan's fever is 103.9. TOO high in my book. But what can you do? We give him a bath and get a call into the doctor. We decide to go and spend a little bit of time at the reception.
Zeb went back to the hotel during the reception, and everything seemed to be going okay. A little bit later, we received an emergency call from the hotel. Logan was completely burning up and the thermometer would even read his temp. So, we hurry back to the hotel where his fever was now 104.6. We were freaking out! So, we head to the nearest hospital. As soon as we walk in, we all know that this is a mistake. There were so many people there -- all VERY sick (looking, at least!). And after the front desk person was terribly rude, we decided to head back to the hotel. Mom and Zeb quickly packed up our things and we headed home. We were going to take it city by city. Lansing was about 45 minutes away, and having lived there for 4 years, I knew there were a couple different hospitals we could choose.
Once we got on the road, Logan seemed to be doing better. He was sleeping (it was about 10:30 at this point), and he seemed to be cooling off. We drive by Lansing, and just keep heading for home. He did great the whole ride home. As soon as we pulled into our addition, he started throwing up. We got him in bed and he threw up again. So, we headed to our hospital. Much better. It was nice and quiet. They got us into a room within about 10 minutes. We were there for several hours. Logan had to have an IV, which now, I'm glad they were able to get some fluids in him. They also took blood tests.
The doctor who treated Logan said that they are not even testing for H1N1 anymore, but are just treating everyone with flu-symptoms like they would any flu patient. They assured us that Logan was okay to go home, so we arrived home about 5:30 a.m. and he slept for a few hours. All day Sunday was spent with his fever going up and down and us trying to get medicine in him, only to have him throw up again. We've been doing laundry constantly!
Today, he seems to be doing somewhat better. The fever is mostly gone, although we still can't get any medicine in him. He has eaten some and kept it down and has been drinking a lot. He's pretty whiney, which is not like him at all. And he's just sleeping and cuddling a lot (I don't mind the cuddling!).
Talk about a weekend! We are so exhausted! All I want now is for Logan to be feeling better and back to his old self. As I was laying with him in the hospital bed, I couldn't help but think of all of the little babies who are so much more sick than he is. I cannot imagine what those parents go through on a daily basis.
Thank you for your prayers, and continue to pray for his complete healing. And Logan, when you read back on this one day, just know that mommy and daddy only want what is absolutely best for you and we just want you to be happy and healthy always!

Smile!
Oh, our precious boy....today, he pointed his finger at Miss Carma (the sitter) and said "STOP." She couldn't believe a 1 year old had such attitude! He also likes to quickly crawl away from her when he's touching something he knows he shouldn't, and she starts coming towards him. I guess he's learning something from watching the older children he plays with every day!
Also, I gave him some toast tonight with his regular fruits and vegetables, and he was trying to say the word "toast." He didn't quite get all of the letters, but he was trying.
My words could never express how much I love this little guy. He is just the sunshine that brightens up our days. We are so blessed to call him our son. He definitely keeps us smiling!!!

Logan's Birthday Party
We had a wonderful time celebrating Logan's birthday with our family. Logan is so special to all of us, and it was so good to celebrate him! If you watched the video of him eating his cake, you've probably guessed that that was the highlight of our evening.
Here are some pics from his party...

And then, the main event!

He had to take a bath when it was all over

It was such an amazing day! Zeb and I watch the video of him eating his cake over and over. We love you, Logan!
