Field Trips

We are only a month into the school year and Logan has already had 2 field trips -- pre-kindergarten is GREAT!

The first one was to safety village.  He learned the oh-so-important "Stop, Look and Listen" before crossing the street, and he hasn't forgotten it!  We take a lot of walks and he is always quick to remind me of this safety measure. 

The village is set up like a little town and the kids get to drive these little jeeps.  He was in heaven!

The next field trip was to his teacher's house for a picnic.  He had so much fun exploring in the woods and picking up buckeyes and other treasures.

 I love watching how much he is changing.  The first field trip, he wasn't a great listener (just standing in line, etc.), but he was so much better on the second one!

In other school news, he knows almost half of the Presidents, and it's the most adorable thing to listen to!!!  I'll have to record it and post it on here.  I don't want to forget how sweet it sounds.

Call Day!!

Dear Logan,

Five years ago, I received a call that I will never forget.  I remember trying to write down as much information as I could.  There was nothing on earth that could prepare us for the joy that you would bring into our life. 

What is so amazing about being your mom is that I really like you. You are a fun and funny person and I cherish your sweet little heart.  You are my child, yes, but life is just more fun with you around. 

You bring me so many laughs and sweet moments throughout my day.  It's like all the other moments of my day are just times I'm getting through to be able to spend time with you. 

Your daddy and I love you more than we ever thought possible.  We are so proud of you and so thankful that we get to be a part of your life.  Don't for one minute forget how loved you are. 

What I want you to know is that special call on August 22, 2008, was one of the happiest days of our life.  You are such a blessing.

First Day of Pre-Kindergarten

We had a GREAT first day!!!  Logan was excited about his new adventure.  We started out the morning with donuts as a family.  He was eager for us to leave him in his classroom and let him get on with his day!

 He practiced coloring today....told the teacher he didn't know how.  I think he just has a crush on the teacher's assistant and wanted extra attention!  At any rate, when he finished coloring, he told his teacher, "My mom is going to be so proud of me!"  He was right.

It still hasn't sunk in yet that this is our new normal.  It's so amazing to think how much he's going to grow and learn in the halls of that school.  So thankful that we have a Christian school for him to be a part of!!!

Getting Ready

This is a big week for us!  Logan is starting school - real school, prekindergarten on Tuesday!!!!  Last Thursday night, we went to the school for orientation.  He is going to the school that I attended from kindergarten to twelfth grade.  He has the same teacher this year that I had in kindergarten.

Yes, that's water all over his shirt.  Guess he needs some practice with that water fountain!

 He keeps asking why he can't go back to his old school.  I'll be honest, it would have been easier logistically to send him back to where he has been going.  But we feel that this is going to be a better place for him, to give him a head start on schooling.  He is going Monday - Friday, 8 - noon.  At noon, a lady from our church will pick him up and take him to my grandma's house -- he's been going to her house all summer. 

He wasn't that excited about a new school until we got to see his classroom on Thursday night.  Now he keeps asking when he's going to go!  My brother is the vice principal there, so Logan is going to have to get used to calling him Mr. Atchley.  But on Thursday night, Logan walked right about to Dave, stuck his hand out to shake and said, "I know you're the spanker!"  We've warned him :)

During the time when we went into the classroom and the teacher was talking, Logan looked at me and said out loud, "Mom, are you sure this is a great idea?!"  And as the teacher was telling us about different field trips and such, she mentioned one where the whole class goes to her house and they can walk in the woods and find things but "NO snakes!"  And Logan was so upset about that...he was trying to get out of his seat, but I held him down.  At the end, he walked up to her and said, "Mrs. Ross, why can't we find snakes?"  He is VERY concerned about that and asked her again today at church!

I can't wait to hear all the stories about Logan being in school.  He was already the most talkative one in the class loudly asking "Is this the time out seat?"  During her speech, as well.  Oh my.  She's going to have her hands full with that one.  But it will be good for him and we are both excited and sad to see him getting ready for this new journey in life.  I know he's going to have so much fun and make so many memories in school!  I can't wait to help him study, do science projects and hear all about what he is learning every day.

There are so many precious things that I want to remember about Michelle's wedding day!  Logan did such a great job as ring bearer (or ringer, as he called it).

 

 The wedding was going to be outdoor, but due to rain, it was moved inside.

Logan with Great Grandpa and Grandma Johnston.  They hadn't seen Logan in almost 2 years, so it was nice to see them!

Logan and his Aunt Rachael -- or his new BFF.  Logan woke up the morning of the wedding with some kind of bites all over him and when we suggested that "maybe Aunt Rachael did it!" he would get SO defensive and sternly say, "It's not Aunt Rachael!" We just like to tease him!

The Wedding Rehearsal

He was practicing running here.  I will be shocked if this boy doesn't take up running as a hobby.

There are so many details of Aunt Michelle's wedding that I want to record for Logan (and me -- well, mostly me).  But I was SO PROUD of our sweet little boy as he was the "ringer" in "Aunt Shell's" wedding.  The night of the rehearsal, we were outside. It was planned to be an outdoor wedding, but rain on the wedding day changed those plans.  But the night of the rehearsal it was SO HOT.  And he did *okay* for a four year old, but I admit -- I was worried about how he would do during the actual wedding.

Earlier in the day, we had gone to Pensacola Children's Museum and Logan got these aviator goggles.  He loved them so much, he wanted to wear them all the time.  And so, he wore them to the rehearsal. 

 

At the end of the evening, Aunt Michelle and Uncle Andrew gave Logan a beautiful tractor/piggy bank (he's holding it in this picture below) and he thought it was one of the coolest things ever!

 

I took so many pictures that I decided to break up the posts into the rehearsal and the wedding, so I'll be adding the wedding pictures sometime soon!
