Father's Day

Logan's interview:

-My dad is 7 years old.
-His hair is bald and his eyes are blue.
-My dad likes to wear t-shirts.
-He loves to eat meat.
-He is smart because he knows when I need help.
-My dad works hard at work.
-Daddy always tell me when to clean my room.
-It makes my dad happy when I don't make a mess.
-If he could go on a trip, he would go to Tennessee, and he would take shoes, flip flops, blankets and t-shirts.
-I really love it when my dad helps me.
-If I could give my daddy anything it would be a box of t-shirts with fish on it.
-My favorite thing about my dad is that he helps me a lot.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE going back and seeing how his answers are different every year.  I'm so glad that we do this!

Innocence

Yesterday, Logan went to the splash pad without us and later in the evening, we were talking about the day.  We happened to know that a little boy fell and got hurt.  We were asking Logan about it and Zeb said "are you talking about the little black boy?"  And in all seriousness, Logan had absolutely no idea in a difference in skin color (to clarify, we were trying to determine if Logan was responsible for the accident, so we were trying to figure out if the boy who fell and hurt himself was the same boy who Logan excitedly hugged....). Anyways, the only reason I write this is because I want to relish his innocence.  That his pure mind truly sees no skin color.  He responded with "it was the boy in the American shorts."  And Zeb said, "was his skin dark?"  And Logan said "I couldn't tell."  

Tonight, we were taking a walk and Logan was running around with two swords. He almost ran this lady over and I was scolding him and said "you almost ran over that lady!  And she's pregnant!  You could have hurt her!!!"  And he said "what's pregnant?"  I told him that it means that she has a baby in her belly.  He said, "how can you tell?"  I said "because her belly was big!"  And he never realized it. 

So, in short, we've pretty much ruined our child in terms of innocence with differences in color and size of people in the past 24 hours.  

And...he lost a tooth today.  

Vacation 2014 - day two

Today was a busy day!  We went to Dollywood this morning.  The first thing we rode was a water ride.  Logan had done this ride when he was two and he loved it. Today, he was a little more unsure about it, but once the ride started, he did fine...he loved it.  We rode the train, which I think was grandma's favorite part.  We also did the cars and Zeb and Logan rode a roller coaster in kiddie land.  

We came back to the cabin and took a nap and then my parents arrived. Zeb and Logan went to the pool for a while. 

In the evening, we went to Gatlinburg. We ate at Bubba Gump's, and then we walked around town.  

It was a busy day, but a wonderful one.   My favorite memory was my dad telling Logan a story about Uncle Versey and a raccoon.  Logan's face was adorable as he listened intently to the story.  I hope he remembers that story forever. 

Vacation

We are in Pigeon Forge this week!  We just arrived today and we've already had so much fun.  We stopped on our way down and had a picnic.  As I write this, we are at the Dixie Stampede waiting for it to start.  

Ol' Ma is with us.  We are keeping her busy. 

My Boy

Dear Logan,

Today is your last day of Pre-Kindergarten!  You were so excited when you woke up this morning...you proclaimed, "And the teacher said we could bring snacks to share with the whole class!!!!  If your mom and dad want."  And then I panicked.  Because that was the first I had heard about snacks.  We managed to find something in the pantry that you could take.  Anyways, it's nearing 11 a.m. and it's time for your big celebration at school. You are watching a movie and you get to eat a hot dog.  My goodness, we you excited about that hot dog.

I simply cannot believe that you are DONE with preschool.  I am SO proud of the growth that you've had over this past year.  You've had some rocky moments, but it's mostly good. And wow -- have you learned so much!  The other day as we were driving, you said, "Mom, that says 'bus stop.'"  And you were right!  Guess I won't be able to spell words anymore to keep you from knowing what I'm saying.

You are the sweetest boy I know with the kindest heart.  You are my favorite person.  You are everything good and brave and smart and funny that I wish I could be.  God is going to use you in amazing ways.  He already uses you every day to make my life (and so many others) happy. Being your mama is my greatest joy.



Happy Last day of Pre-Kindergarten sweet boy.  I love you so much!

 

Pre-Kindergarten Graduation

Logan's school year is coming to an end.  I simply cannot believe it.  I'm so proud of our boy and how far he has come.  And I'm so happy that we decided to give him a head start by sending him to pre-kindergarten. 

Today, he had his final program.  The students learn so much!  They say their states and capitals, books of the Bible and Presidents, among other things.

When the principal asked Logan what his favorite field trip was this year, he proclaimed "Pizza Hut!" 

He did a good job during his program.  They give the students rolled up diplomas and I was certain Logan was going to use it as a telescope, but he didn't :)  So proud of him!!!

What Happened on That Fourth and Fifth Day?!

Spring break ended all too quickly.  On Thursday, we made the trip to the Indy Children's Museum and spent a couple hours there.  It was a nightmare.  Not really, but by the time we left, the place was packed.  Glad we got there early.

We didn't tell Logan that we were staying overnight.  We kept saying things like, "Are you ready to drive home now?"  And he was fine with that. We stopped at P.F. Changs for lunch and during lunch, we told him that we were staying at a hotel overnight.

He had the sweetest reaction.  He was genuinely shocked and surprised and I will treasure that moment forever.  I'll probably tell him about it for the rest of his life.  If I had known it was going to be so sweet, I would have recorded it.  But imagine his jaw dropping - literally - and him just repeating, "Right now?  Today?  We are staying?"  The poor kid acts like he's never done anything fun in his life.  But I do appreciate how he loves the little things.  He was telling the waiter that his parents surprised him and he was going to stay at a hotel.

Seriously.  It was so cute.
